Cho Oyu Expedition

Itinerary

We’ll meet you at the airport—look out for a sign with your name on it. Transfer to your hotel for rest and recovery.
Take time to rest from your journey. In the afternoon, join the group meeting where we will complete expedition paperwork and conduct a detailed briefing.
We sort all personal and group gear. Equipment is organized for transport to HighHimal’s storage area for loading onto support vehicles.
A flexible day—you can explore UNESCO sites in Kathmandu Valley or opt for a rock climbing session as warm-up training.
Travel by bus or jeep to the Nepal–Tibet Friendship Bridge. After crossing the border, transfer to a Chinese Land Cruiser and continue to Zhangmu. Overnight at a hotel.
Drive further to Nyalam. Spend two nights here to acclimatize, including a short acclimatization hike. Overnight in a hotel.
We continue driving to Tingri. Overnight at a hotel. The next day, shop for fresh vegetables and other necessary items for the base camp.
Spend several days at Base Camp acclimatizing and preparing gear for load carries. Optional hikes or load carries are possible if you’re feeling fit.
Begin the climb by moving up to Intermediate Camp with yaks and alpine gear.
Set up Advanced Base Camp and Camp 1. Start ferrying loads to Camps 1, 2, and 3. If everyone is doing well, spend a few nights at Camp 1 and climb a bit higher before returning to ABC to rest.

The expedition leader, in consultation with team members and high-altitude porters, manages day-to-day expedition operations. Several strategies for the summit bid will be discussed in Base Camp and ABC.The general plan includes multiple acclimatization trips up to around 7,000 meters. Logistical preparation is key—ensuring all high camps are properly stocked. Once all camps are ready and team members are acclimatized, we wait for a favorable weather window for the summit attempt. Patience and flexibility are essential.
