Gokyo Trek

Itinerary

Your journey begins with a scenic 30-minute flight from Kathmandu to the mountain airstrip at Lukla (2,840 m). From Lukla, you commence your trek with a gentle descent through beautiful forests and Sherpa villages to reach Phakding (2,610 m), where you'll stay overnight.
Following the Dudh Koshi River, the trail ascends through pine forests, crossing several suspension bridges. After a challenging climb, you reach the bustling Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar, the gateway to the Everest region.
This rest day helps with acclimatization. You can explore the lively town, visit the Sherpa Museum, or hike up to the Everest View Hotel for panoramic mountain views, including Everest and Ama Dablam.
The trail climbs above Namche, offering stunning views before entering quiet rhododendron forests. You'll ascend gradually to the small settlement of Dole, situated above the tree line.
Today’s route passes through alpine meadows and summer grazing settlements. The walk is relatively short but essential for gradual altitude gain. You'll reach Machchhermo by afternoon, a quiet resting point before reaching Gokyo.
You continue your ascent, enjoying dramatic views of snowcapped peaks. After crossing a river and passing the first two Gokyo Lakes, you reach the third and main Gokyo Lake, where the village of Gokyo lies beside its turquoise waters.
An early morning hike to Gokyo Ri rewards you with one of the best panoramic views in the Himalayas including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. Later, you can explore the upper Gokyo Lakes before returning to the village for the night.
After a memorable stay in Gokyo, you retrace your steps down the valley, returning to Dole. The descent offers a fresh perspective on the landscape you've already crossed.
Continue your descent through quiet trails, passing by grazing yaks and lush forests. You'll arrive back in Namche Bazaar, where you can enjoy a well-earned rest.
The trail descends steeply toward the Dudh Koshi River and passes through familiar villages and monasteries. You’ll return to Phakding for your final night on the trail.
A short and relaxed hike brings you back to Lukla. It's time to celebrate your successful trek with your guides and porters.
Board a scenic morning flight back to Kathmandu, marking the end of an unforgettable Himalayan adventure.
