Makalu Expedition

Itinerary

Take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar. Overnight in a local lodge or camp.
Begin your trek through lush hills and terraced fields to reach Mane Bhanjyang.
Continue trekking through charming villages and forested trails toward Chichila.
Trek through undulating terrain with great views of valleys and distant peaks. Overnight at Mure or Num.
Descend to the Arun River and ascend through bamboo forests to reach the Seduwa area.
Trek through a beautiful forest trail and pass small settlements to arrive at Tashigaon.
Take a rest day to acclimatize before ascending into higher altitudes.
Climb steeply through dense forests and ridgelines with increasingly alpine views.
Ascend toward Khongma, a high mountain meadow offering dramatic views.
Cross the Shipton La Pass and descend to the forested area of Mumbuk or Nghe Kharka.
Follow a scenic trail along the Barun River to Merek or Langmale Kharka.
Arrive at Makalu Base Camp (4,870m), your home for the coming weeks. Settle in and rest.
Take a rest and acclimatize while preparing for the climbing phase.
Use this window for acclimatization rotations, setting up higher camps, and making your summit attempt (8,485m). Weather, health, and route conditions will guide the summit push.
Retrace your steps over 10 days from Base Camp back to Tumlingtar, enjoying the descent and changing scenery.
Catch a morning flight back to Kathmandu. Transfer to your hotel and relax.
Enjoy shopping, relaxation, and a group celebration in the evening.
Optional sightseeing around Kathmandu Valley or simply enjoy the local culture and cuisine.
Transfer to the airport for your international flight or begin an optional trip extension.
